World Cup heats up…

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Man, the action is getting quite good lately. First the USA manages to keep Italy to a draw in that absolutely stunning game on Saturday. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting that kind of game. USA down to 9 players? Italy down to 10?

McBride's Bloody Face

How about McBride getting an elbow to the face, walking off the field with blood streaming from a gash under his eye onto his jersey. The referee was obviously high on something, probably has a crack problem or maybe meth since that’s the new threat to society these days, because what the fuck was he thinking with all of those yellow cards? Seriously, get a grip… I hope that stupid fuck never ref’s a professional game again. He shouldn’t be allowed near a football, let alone anywhere near a pitch.

Pope and Mastroeni are out for the Ghana game on Thursday now because of bullshit calls. It’ll be interesting to see how that game is, since it’s do or die time for the USA. Really going to have to pull from the bench… And what about Ghana? A shocker of a win over Czech Republic… 2 - Nil. Amazing. Hopefully Italy beats the Czech’s so the group standings work out in the USA’s favor. Thursday looks like a great day for football!

Sunday had a great game with France and South Korea… seriously, best crowd I’ve seen so far. Those South Korea fans are INSANE with their national pride, it’s awesome. Makes for some great background noise for some great football. Absolute shit of a call though on that header by Vieira, though. Domenech (the coach for France) said at a press conference later, “We did not score one goal but two. The problem is that the referee only allowed us one.” No shit… the ball was totally over the line. The ref’s have been pretty bad so far, it seems, but when are they not? Still… open your fucking eyes, jeez.

Today wasn’t a bad day either… with Spain defeating Tunisia after being down 1 - nil for 72 minutes. Two beautiful back to back goals in the 72nd and 76th minutes, and then the final nail in the coffin with a well deserved penalty kick from Torres in the 90th. Switzerland came up with a big win over Togo, which puts them up in the standings for Group G. Looking forward to the South Korea vs. Switzerland game on Friday.

Tomorrows got two great games with Ecuador vs. Germany and England vs. Sweden! Wednesday has Argentina vs. Netherlands, which should prove to be quite a game since Argentina looks like they’re on fire lately with that 6 - nil win over Serbia & Montenegro.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh it just doesn’t stop! How the fuck am I supposed to look for a job when I have to watch 4 to 6 hours of soccer a day! =) Fuck it, if I was employed I wouldn’t get to, so I might as well enjoy it while I can.

US plays like shit, gets taught a lesson. England just gets 3 points.

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

I’m convinced that everywhere but the US can play football ( soccer for you fucking morons that don’t know what real football is ). This was confirmed for me when watching the US play the Czech Republic on Monday, I mean, come on, they really got their ass beat. No one on the US team seemed to really care about the game or want the ball. England plays like absolute shit and still comes up with a win, what gives?

The cup so far has been pretty good… I can’t complain, I get to watch almost every game =) I’d have to say that so far, the best game I’ve seen was the Mexico vs Iran game, just purely because they both wanted the ball and the set pieces were sweet. Anyway, off to watch the Spain vs. Ukraine game on my DVR and play some FIFA World Cup on the 360!

World Cup starts tomorrow!

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Can’t wait… a friend and I are going to a bar to watch the first match between Germany and Costa Rica at 9 AM. Early as fuck, I know, but should be worth it. Then we’re going to watch the England vs. Paraguay match at 6 AM on Saturday, again, early as fuck, but how can you not want to see it?

Right now, I’m hoping England and USA win, so we’ll see how it goes. Alot of pre-cup injuries going around, so it should be interesting. France just lost Cisse, which is a HUGE blow to them. Let’s hope Rooney can still play for England…
