Another thing I almost wet my pants over (but with a different bodily fluid…) was the announcement that Blizzard would be releasing Diablo 3!  Dear God it’s about fucking time… I swear, I was going to have to hunt someone down if they didn’t announce it this week after the bullshit 5 days of Blizzard crap they were pulling with their splash page.

Irregardless, it looks very very good and I can’t wait for it to come out in 2010, probably when I’m in South Africa for World Cup, because, that’s probably how it will work out, sadly.  Hopefully it will be sooner than that, say - Christmas? =)

I re-installed Diablo 2 just to play around in it again, relive some false memories I had of playing it (I never did), and I have to say, fuck me is 800×600 small as shit on a 30″ monitor.  Jesus Christ, did we really game in that horrid resolution?  The graphics, at best, are appaling by todays standards, however, the gameplay is surprisingly very good for a hack and slash top down dungeon crawler.

I probably would have lost hours of my life, much like this afternoon, playing it online back in 2000.  I only hope they release it either before WotLK, or sometime afterwards, because honestly, with how good it looks, I can see myself playing it quite a bit.

I was so unbelievably happy about todays outcome I almost peed myself watching the last 10 minutes of the game.  Nail bitingly brilliant!!

They absolutely deserved this win today… especially Torres.  Holy fuck that guy pulled off one of the best goals I’ve ever seen.  I’ve been rooting for Spain this entire tournament, so I’m quite pleased with myself for picking the winner.  They only sad part now, is that I have to wait until September to watch the Champions League, and then until 2010 for the next World Cup.

Oh well, maybe I’ll be in South Africa for it =)

On of the best television series ever, and one of my personal favorites, is coming to Bluray this September.  Awesome news!

This series should have got a second season, but because Fox is pretty much fucking stupid, they cancelled it.  Eitherway, DTS-MA audio + 1080p = win.  I will definately be buying this when it comes out.

With every passing day, Blizzard changes it’s splash page with an ever revealing image, hooking pretty much anyone and everyone in gaming into it’s new game announcement, due this Saturday.

D3? WotLK? Lost Fucking Vikings!?

Sigh.

Todays image now has eyes in the center and another rune.  Apparently hidden in the CSS file for the page the Lost numbers are showing up in sequence, so far with 4, 15, 23, 16.  With 2 more days until WWI, that’s just enough time to add 8 and 42.

So either this is a huuuuuge fucking prank (or rather brilliant god damn marketing - motherfuckers), or now people think there might be a Lost Vikings game announcement.  Lost Numbers + Ice = Lost Vikings apparently.

Somehow I doubt that, but you just never know with these guys.  Either way, I expect it to be epic.  If it’s just something we’ve already heard about (SC2, WotLK) it’s going to be a huge disappointment.

So I picked up Stephen Kochan’s book on Objective-C “Programming in Objective-C” (Unfortunately, 2.0 isn’t out until November.  Sucks.)  pretty much because he taught me C back when I was in high school with his first edition of “Programming in C”.  That and the original K&R book on C were my bibles for the language, as I’m sure they were for a lot of people back in “the day”.  Hell, I still have both of my original books from damn near 20 years ago.

Wow.  That’s sort of fucking scary.  I feel old now =(

Moving on…

Now that I’m interested in learning ObjC for Mac/iPhone stuff, I thought it was great that Kochan had a book out on it.  I always liked his writing style, so this should be a good read.  I haven’t coded in C in ages, so hopefully I can ramp up and get back into it without much effort.

At first glance with the language, it shouldn’t be that tough.  There’s many similarities to Perl, at least for me, that will make it easier for me to pick it up.  I never learned C++ or any other strongly OOP language like Java, but Perls modules and class oriented style look pretty similar.

Anyway, hopefully I’ll have some updates on my progress.  And hopefully I won’t fucking pass out from my brain being overstuffed with code.  Dreams about code are never fun.

So, with pretty much all of Turkeys roster injured, it might seem pretty hopeless for them to beat Germany… but after the last 2 games I’ve seen them play, I just can’t rule them out.  I honestly won’t be surprised if they advance to the final.  Somehow, they’ve been able to pull some off the most amazing goals out of their ass at the exact time they’ve needed to.  I’m a bit disappointed Nihat won’t be playing, but an injury is an injury.

As for the other bracket (which I neglected to look at when wishing for a Spain/Netherlands final), Spain might have a tough time besting Russia after their unbelivable win over the Dutch.  I was pretty speachless that they lost, especially after that brilliant header by Nistelrooy to tie it up.  They just couldn’t put anything together to stop the relentless attacks of the Russians.  Spain definately has their work cut out for them, but I’m still hoping for them to end up in the final.  Right now, they have to be my favorite team so far in this tournament… with Turkey a close second.

Pretty fucking fun, I must say. This game is going to be a huuuuuuuge hit.  Can’t wait to see more of it.

Damnit.  I cannot believe that Ribery was injured 10 minutes into the game - that guy is one of my favorites on the French team and I was really looking forward to a rematch of the 2006 World Cup game where he really came out and shined.

Irregardless of Italy scoring in the first half, it was a great game.  I was still pulling for France up until about the 75 minute, but it just seemed like they were beaten in the last 15.  Almost like they had given up, or had been just been pounded so hard by Italy that they didn’t have it left in them.  Somewhat dissapointing.

I must admit, I’m not pleased that Italy made it through.  I was really hoping they’d get pushed out by France, but again, my dreams dissapeared for Les Bleus.  Hopefully they wont make it past the Quarter Finals.

On the other hand, Netherlands defeated Romania 1-nil… which was great to hear.  They didn’t need the win, but as a confidence builder, I’m excited for them.  Hopefully they continue on.  Netherlands/Spain final still looking good!

Wow.  What a fucking brilliant game that was today… I simply cannot believe that last half.  Nihat’s goals in the last 5 minutes were just amazing!

I’m looking forward to seeing France and Italy play against each other in a World Cup rematch this Tuesday.  Shouldn’t dissapoint.  Netherlands and Spain are still looking great, so I’m still hoping to see them in the final, however after today, I have to say Turkey is looking quite good for the final as well.
