Blizzard = Fail

August 11th, 2008

Seriously.

All fucking day to try and buy 1 ticket to Blizzcon 2008?  You have to be kidding me.  Who didn’t do their capcity planning correctly?  This should never have happened.  They’ve got more money than God, go buy some damn servers.

Blizzard Fail

It’s been 8 hours and I still can’t buy a fucking ticket.  /sigh

Rush fails at their own song in Rock Band

July 23rd, 2008
Rush On Colbert
Kind of cool that Colbert had them on (just watched the episode on Hulu) last week. They had them try to play Tom Sawyer in RB and you can see what happens when old rockers try and play a video game.

Sort of sad, really, but understandable. I doubt they’ve ever seen the game before.

They got to 31% on expert though… first time.

Why So Serious?

Why So Serious?

Holy mother fuck.  The Dark Knight is fucking unbelievable!  Seriously the best comic book movie ever created, and definately ranks in my top 5 best action movies ever.  God I want to see this again, it’s just that good.  This time though, I really want to see it in an Imax theater for the full glory of the shots they took using those cameras.

Everyone needs to see this movie…

One Day As A Lion

One Day As A Lion

Finally, Zach De La Rocha of Rage Against The Machine has released something from his 8 year solo project, .  It’s actually really really fucking good.  Sort of helps that the drummer is none other than Jon Theodore, formerly of The Mars Volta, one of my personal favorites.

The song is up on their Myspace page.  Can’t wait to hear more from the EP.

Age of Conan running under Fusion 2.0b1… Sort of

July 5th, 2008
Age of Conan on VMWare Fusion

So I was messing around with the VMWare Fusion 2.0 beta today, hoping to be able to get Age of Conan to run.  Sadly, it didn’t work out that great.  I was able to, after some finagling of the copied directory files, get it to start up, ask for credentials, and then present me with the above character select screen.  It was actually fairly responsive in full screen mode (don’t even bother trying windowed - it works, but only barely and it takes forever to load in the assets), however once I selected a character and tried to load the game, it deteriorated from there.

The loading screen took forever to process, most likely due to poor disk performance.  Having the vmdk file on the same disk as the OS is a pretty bad idea, particularly on a 7200RPM drive.  I don’t typically have I/O problems on my Raptors, but because this is a hackintosh, it’s the best I had laying around.

After the loading screen finished, the art assets would slowly start loading in, almost to the point where it seemed playable.  That quickly faded as soon as I tried to move my character… the entire screen started to distort, textures were missing on a majority of everything, and I lost all of the UI completely.

Oh well.  It’s a huge stride forward for virtualization, I have to say.  Hopefully they can get all of the DirectX bugs worked out and make it fully functional.  If they can, this could be a great way for Mac users to be able to play games without using Bootcamp.

I really want to eat at the French Laundry

July 4th, 2008

God, I want to eat at this place so bad… I think I’m going to plan a trip to go there on my next birthday.  A 9 course tasting menu for $240 seems like a steal with the quality of food you get.  I saw this Anthony Bourdain show this week where he went there, and it looks absolutely amazing.

10.5.4 update installed!

July 1st, 2008
10.5.4 Update

I just installed the 10.5.4 update to my hackintosh… I grabbed the .dmg from Apple and did it that way, rather than risk the Software Update install.  Had to replace the patched kernel and system.kext with my original 9.2.0 T0h one, but it booted just fine and runs perfectly.

Diablo 3!!

June 29th, 2008
Diablo 3!

Another thing I almost wet my pants over (but with a different bodily fluid…) was the announcement that Blizzard would be releasing Diablo 3!  Dear God it’s about fucking time… I swear, I was going to have to hunt someone down if they didn’t announce it this week after the bullshit 5 days of Blizzard crap they were pulling with their splash page.

Irregardless, it looks very very good and I can’t wait for it to come out in 2010, probably when I’m in South Africa for World Cup, because, that’s probably how it will work out, sadly.  Hopefully it will be sooner than that, say - Christmas? =)

I re-installed Diablo 2 just to play around in it again, relive some false memories I had of playing it (I never did), and I have to say, fuck me is 800×600 small as shit on a 30″ monitor.  Jesus Christ, did we really game in that horrid resolution?  The graphics, at best, are appaling by todays standards, however, the gameplay is surprisingly very good for a hack and slash top down dungeon crawler.

I probably would have lost hours of my life, much like this afternoon, playing it online back in 2000.  I only hope they release it either before WotLK, or sometime afterwards, because honestly, with how good it looks, I can see myself playing it quite a bit.

Spain Wins!

June 29th, 2008

I was so unbelievably happy about todays outcome I almost peed myself watching the last 10 minutes of the game.  Nail bitingly brilliant!!

Spain Wins!

They absolutely deserved this win today… especially Torres.  Holy fuck that guy pulled off one of the best goals I’ve ever seen.  I’ve been rooting for Spain this entire tournament, so I’m quite pleased with myself for picking the winner.  They only sad part now, is that I have to wait until September to watch the Champions League, and then until 2010 for the next World Cup.

Oh well, maybe I’ll be in South Africa for it =)

Firefly coming to Bluray!

June 26th, 2008
Firefly on Bluray
On of the best television series ever, and one of my personal favorites, is coming to Bluray this September.  Awesome news!

This series should have got a second season, but because Fox is pretty much fucking stupid, they cancelled it.  Eitherway, DTS-MA audio + 1080p = win.  I will definately be buying this when it comes out.
